Three wins out of Three for the HBU’s Youth Academy Under 15’s in Eastern Counties
Eastern Counties Intermediates (Under 15) League
Tournament 29th October, Burwell, Cambridge
This was the first outing of the season for HBU’s Under 15 team. This is a newly constructed team with 2 players just out of Under 13 and the remainder still in the younger age-group and Amelia Parkinson-Wellard and Ishen Kiff making their league debuts.
The first game saw HBU against an inexperienced Colchester team with HBU running out winners 11-0. Goals were scored regularly in both halves with some good performances and Ishen making his first appearance in goal for the second half. The whole squad played and contributed to the scoreline and it was a good start.
The second game saw HBU against a good Norwich side, HBU went one down before goals from David Martindale (2), Jamie McVey and Will Parkinson-Wellard took HBU to a 4-1 win.
HBU’s last match of the day saw them against a much bigger Walpole side. The obvious danger came from some big hitters. HBU defended well, restricting Walpole to few chances and working as a team to create chances which brought goals from Oli Hudson, David Martindale and Katie Mcvey. Josh Branchett converted a penalty to give HBU a 4-1 win to round off a successful tournament.
The tournament showed HBU defending well with some good team play. The focus in the coming weeks will be on improving the conversion rate of the many chances that the team created and this will hopefully be reflected in our next tournament at the end of November. These were the first competitive games for this team and the results and the style of play were encouraging. Well Done to all!!
Will P-W as Kings Fish Bar “man of the Tournament” for his continuous work-rate, effective tackles and (for a change) looking for constructive passes.
