National Roller Hockey Association

National Cup semi-finals 2012

These took place at Soham, Cambridgeshire on Sunday 29 January.

Herne Bay United were in two categories – under 11 and under 15

Under 11 HBU v Peterborough

HBU have played Peterborough in the Eastern Counties under 11 league and have comfortably won these encounters.  The Peter borough goalie upped his game and HBU had to work hard for a 2 – 0 half-time lead with 2 goals from captain George Daly. The second half saw more goals with Sian Emslie coming on song with 2 goals and 2 more from George and with the other players coming close. The match demonstrated HBU’s improving defence against counter-attacks that also required some fine saves from Jamie Leonard in goal from a fast improving Peterborough side. Peterborough secured a consolation goal in the closing seconds scoring into an unattended HBU net as HBU tried a 5 out-player combination.

HBU Team: Jamie Leonard (GK), George Daly (C) (4), Sian Emslie (2), Luke Huckstepp, Noah Latham, Archie Isaacs, Max Bassom

Under 15 HBU v Bury St Edmunds

This semi-final came as a bit of a surprise to HBU as at the beginning of the season there was not an under 15 squad.

With just 4 out-players and 12 year old Ishen Kiff in goal this match was a “big ask” against opposition that is a regular part of the England team. Conceding 2 goals right from the whistle unsettled the HBU team and at half-time they were 1 – 5 down. HBU started the second half strongly but Bury scored twice more against the run of play before Alex Mount scored twice for HBU making it 3 – 7. Bury came back again with goals in the final seconds to run out comfortable 3 – 9 winners. There was good spirit and team work from the HBU team and time for improvement to compete for the National Club Championships later in the year.
