HBU U13’s first SECRHA tournament of the season and they begin with three positive results.
Their first game saw HBU against local rivals HB. United, the more experienced team were using the tournament as development for next season’s team with 6 of the 8 players available for next season and two of the squad current HBU U11 players (Luke Huckstepp and George Daly).
HBU got off to a good start going a goal up through Josh in the opening minutes. This pattern of play continued throughout the match with HBU controlling the game and rotating players, with GK Rhys Young a spectator for most of the game, but maintaining his concentration to keep a clean sheet. Further HBU goals all from Josh resulted in a 5-0 victory.
The next game was against an Invicta team who defended well and despite constant pressure HBU only scored 3 goals (Jamie, George, Josh) with the Invicta keeper making great saves throughout the match.
The final game against an inexperienced Maidstone team saw HBU run out winners 16-0, with goals from Jamie(3), Josh(3), Oli(4), Will(5) and Luke(1).
The team showed good qualities without really being stretched. Strong team play resulted in the creation of many chances however speed of passing and quality of finishing are areas for development over the coming weeks. The full squad played their part and this tournament was a good stage for developing next season’s team in a competitive and friendly environment.
