HBU Under 15’s Eastern Counties Remain top of the table.

Posted by HBU Admin on April 30, 2012

HBU U15 side completed their Eastern Counties League Season with victories in their remaining games. Already clear at the top of the table HBU faced a Norwich side who have been HBU’s closest challengers all season and were determined to gain a victory against the Champions. In a slow start HBU defended well in a close game, restricting their opponents goal scoring opportunities HBU went 2-0 up with goals by Josh Branchett.. Poor finishing by HBU gave Norwich some hope and when they pulled one back it seemed a close finish was likely, almost immediately HBU’s Katie McVey extended their lead and despite some close calls and a late penalty appeal HBU won 3-1 with ‘Keeper Ishen again showing great potential, making some fine saves to restrict the opponents to only one goal.

The final game against Colchester had HBU as clear favourites and in an entertaining game HBU ran out 8-0 winners with goals shared by all the players.

The man of the tournament was Captain Josh Branchett who led by example in the first game, leading the team to victory in a tight match.

The late withdrawal of one team allowed all teams to play a series of short friendly matches with mixed teams consisting of players from all clubs. A nice end to a good day and a successful campaign.

The Squad who traveled:

Ishen Kiff(GK),  Josh Branchett capt(3), David Martindale, Katie McVey(4), Josh Butcher(3), Will Parkinson-Wellard(1), Jamie McVey(1)

This season’s stats are impressive with UTD winning all 16 matches scoring 127 goals and conceding just 12.

Over this season the HBU squad has featured many players and in addition to the players this weekend, Oliver Hudson, Amelia Parkinson Wellard and keeper Rhys Young have all contributed to the title victory.

In all tournaments the players have conducted themselves well on the rink, showing great discipline with no Blue cards and behaving well off the rink.

Well done to all of you for a great season.
