Kent League Final Tournament 28 July 2013

Herne Bay United rounded off a very successful season with their “Centurians” team winning the Kent League Shield in a round-robin tournament with RHC Invicta and Maidstone at the Bay Arena on Sunday morning.

HBU 9 RHC Invicta 3

With both teams fielding Premier league players HBU beat Invicta 9 – 3 despite Invicta scoring the opening goal of both halves.

HBU 12 Maidstone 2

Maidstone put up a strong first half performance to trail HBU 1 – 3 at half-time but this required an enormous work rate that took its toll in the 2nd half and the full-time score line was to 12 -2 in HBU’s favour.

RHC Invicta 6 Maidstone 2

Invicta beat Maidstone 6 – 2 to secure 2nd place.

Medals were provided by Kent County Roller Hockey Association Competitions Executive Deb Pughe and awarded to winners and runners up.

The Cup was presented to Centurians’ captain Neil Austin for winning the league and then the Shield for winning the Final Tournament.

Neil commented “we have fielded a consistent team throughout this season and set our sights on winning and I am delighted that we have done it. After a season’s hard work we still had to win this morning and I am pleased that we were on form”.

Along with this report I would like the following KCRHA comment:

After presenting the Shield, Kent County Roller Hockey Association President Ron Barker commented “This is the 1st time that the Kent Shield has been presented since 1986. This historic trophy goes back to 1922 and I would like to thank past KCRHA General Secretary Roger Pout for its safekeeping and complete refurbishment”.
