Youth Academy: HBU Shine at National Cup Qualifiers

Herne Bay United:

National Cup Qualifiers – Soham 29/30th Mar 2014

HBU continued to enjoy National Cup success with two senior teams & the under 20 team facing tough semi finals, the U13, Under 15 and under 17 teams all competing in National Cup Finals at the end of July at the Bay Arena.

HBU U13

Following the Under 17 side who have already qualified for the National Cup Final, HBU’s U/13 side faced a quarter final against Kings Lynn, producing a strong performance to proceed to the Semis with a 9-4 win.

They entered the semi-final as favourites against a young Middlesborough team and ran out 11-1 winners to confirm their place in the Final v KRHSA.

HBU U15 side faced an unknown opposition in Sudbury and a poor start saw HBU dominating possession but making numerous mistakes, closing the half 1-0 up. The second half saw some improvement with HBU extending the lead to 4-0 before conceding a late goal to win 4-1 and a semi final clash with the winners of Peterboro’ and Invicta.

After a strong performance against Peterboro’, RHC Invicta were HBUs semi final opponents and knowing that a repeat of the previous performance would see HBU lose out on a place in the final. The team started brightly and a well worked goal saw HBU go one up and playing with confidence they extended the lead to 2-0. The second half continued as the first half with a couple of goals, strong defensive work and impressive goal keeping with Rhys saving a penalty, HBU with a 4 – 0 win made it to the Final to play Letchworth.

HBU U20

Playing without a full squad of players HBU U20 side made it a great day, faced a strong Kings Lynn side who were favourites to progress to the semi finals, the HBU team played demonstrated great skill in a disciplined performance and edged a close and exciting game 5-4 to set up a semi final with Bury.

However this match will be rescheduled as time ran out at the Rink.
