Youth Academy: HBU give Benfica an almighty battle in Spain
Herne bay united under 9s travelled to Palafrugell roller hockey club in Spain to play in their 60th anniversary international tournament.
Their first game was against home side Pallafrugell B, HBU played a strong passing game with a 0 – 14 win, with every member of the team scoring. The second game was against Alcala CH another Spanish side this was a very tight game ending with a draw 5 – 5. The third game was against Pallafrugell’s A team which was always going to be a very hard game the score ended 6 – 0 to the home side, but the score did not reflect the game and it was a very close game but the spanish side finished all their chances
.
This meant that HBU could now only finish second but to do this they need to beat Portuguese side Benfica one of the most famous and best clubs in roller hockey. HBU started the game really well and went 3- 0 up but Benfica came back into the game and turned into a really tense affair with it ending 5 – 4 to HBU. This meant HBU had finished second overall with 2 wins and 1 draw and one loss.
HBU done a great job representing their club and the town with exemplary behaviour and performances we can be proud of. They showed great promise and really bonded throughout the trip and we look forward to hearing and seeing them play in the future, it was also great to see so much travelling support from the parents and families!
HBU team List: Finley Kay, Jaspar Dobson, Rhys Dean, Bryn Davies, Will Hosking, Dougie Epps, Jake Croft.
Simon Hosking coach of the team added normally I give out a player of the tournament but it was impossible to choose one player so i awarded it to the whole team as they all played so well really stepping up their games.
