SECRHA U/16 Tournament 18th Jan 2015

Herne Bay United U16 resumed their South Eastern Counties League program at the HB Arena with 2 wins and a draw, maintaining their undefeated start to the season and 1st place. As with the previous tournament United continued to rotate the squad. The first game of the day saw HBU facing 2nd placed RHC Invicta and midway through the first half UTD went one up with Luke notching the first goal of the day and with one second left on the clock a goal from Oli saw HBU comfortable at half time with a 2 goal lead. After the break poor marking in front of goal allowed Invicta to pull one back and a repeat of this error saw Invicta equalise 2-2. HBU maintained pressure on the Invicta goal but neither team were able to score the winner with both keepers making some fine saves.

The 2nd game was against Maidstone who one week earlier drew 1-1 with the HBU U14 side. The visitors began confidently and were rewarded with a goal in the opening few minutes, a goal that was similar to the ones conceded during the last match. With 5 minutes remaining HBU’s pressure paid off with goals from Oli and Harry to put HBU 2-1 in front at the break. In a repeat of the first half Maidstone scored first to level the game, this produced an immediate response and four goals in 3 minutes, followed by 8 goals in the last 5 minutes meant a 14-2 victory.

Local rivals Herne Bay had just completed a 4-0 victory against Invicta meaning this 3rd game would decide which team would come out on top on the day. Solid defending and a goal apiece from Noah and Will saw a HBU 2-0 half time lead. Three more 2nd half goals before HB could respond, followed by a further two late goals and HBU were victors 7-1.
