Roller Hockey Youth Academy: HBU through to Under 17’s and Under 20’s Cup Finals 2016
HBU’s teams went to Soham on Sunday 3 April to play the cup semi-finals.
First up was the Under 20 match. HBU had 4 players out through holidays and injury but the reduced squad put in a great team performance against a confident Soham team. Goals were spread around the team and normal time ended 3 – 3. Oli Hudson was quick off the mark to slot home the winning golden goal just as extra-time started. HBU 4 Soham 3.
The Under 17 team included 3 players who had played in the Under 20 match and also had a player out through holiday. In this match against Grimsby, HBU won 4 – 1 after being 3 – 0 at half time.
HBU’s Under 20s face Letchworth in the final at Herne Bay Arena on 2 July. The Under 17’s clash will be a local derby between HBU and Herne Bay.
HBU President Ron Barker commented “our Under 20 team was very depleted and relied on 3 under 17s stepping up to the mark which they did. They put in a very mature team performance to produce a win that looked unlikely; congratulations to the players and to manager Paul McVey on this achievement. There’s some work to do with the under 17s as we will need a better team performance against Herne Bay in the final. Two HBU teams through with the First Team due to play their first leg of the semi-final against Middlesbrough at the Bay Arena on 16 April.
